Oil Change

The Toyota Corolla is known for its legendary reliability, and with the right maintenance, your sedan can last hundreds of thousands of miles on the Tulsa roads! So if you’re due for a Toyota Corolla oil change, what type of oil does your car need to truly thrive? The recommended oil type will vary depending on your particular model year, but in general, a synthetic formula will set your car up for success. Learn all about the different Toyota Corolla oil types, and schedule your next service with James Hodge Toyota!

What is the Recommended Oil Type for the Toyota Corolla?

In general, the recommended Toyota Corolla oil type is synthetic. Synthetic oil is the most durable option on the market, and though it costs more than conventional, it lasts much longer on the McAlester roads. As for specific formulas, we recommend checking your owner’s manual.  Toyota Corolla models made in 2009 or later generally use a 0W-20 synthetic motor oil. Corolla models made in 2008 or earlier use 5W-30 synthetic motor oil.

Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil: What’s the Difference?

We touched on the difference between synthetic and conventional oil above, but let’s dive deeper into the topic.

  • Conventional oil was once the only option at auto shops. Made from crude oil, it’s a thicker and slower flowing formula. But, it can be a great option for older engines.
  • Synthetic oil contains additional compounds to resist oxidation and breakdown over time. The result is a thinner, free-flowing motor oil that won’t deteriorate as quickly as conventional.

A study by the American Automobile Association (AAA) found that synthetic oils outperformed conventional oils by an average of 47 percent. That’s why so many drivers in Tahlequah rely on synthetic for every Toyota Corolla oil change!

When Should You Schedule a Toyota Corolla Oil Change?

We’ve covered the differences between different oil types, but when should you schedule your next Toyota Corolla oil change for the best results? Once again, we recommend checking your owner’s manual to see the best interval for your model. But most Corolla owners schedule an oil change every 7,500 or 10,000 miles for synthetic oil, or every 5,000 miles for conventional.
