Toyota is known for building reliable models at affordable prices, making it a top choice for many Tulsa drivers. But before you add a new Toyota to your McAlester garage, you’ll want to know: Who owns Toyota? And where are Toyota cars built?
Discover everything you need to know about the Toyota automotive brand, from which Toyota cars are made in the USA to how the company has evolved throughout the years, with this guide from James Hodge Toyota.
While Toyota is primarily known for producing sedans, trucks, and SUVs for the Tahlequah roads, the original company was founded in 1926 to produce automatic looms. The engineers at the then-named Toyota Automatic Loom Works began experimenting with building their own motors, starting with bike motors and upgrading to full car engine prototypes by the early 1930s. With several promising prototypes for passenger vehicles in hand, the Toyota Automatic Loom Works established a separate division, Toyota Motor Corporation, to begin their journey into the automotive market.
Since its founding in 1937, Toyota Motor Corporation has thrived and expanded into the international automaker it is today. Unlike many of its competitors, Toyota has maintained singular ownership over its brand, with its success allowing it to hold stakes in other popular automakers such as Subaru and Mazda. With the introduction of its luxury Lexus brand in the 1980s, Toyota has continued to diversify its offerings to ensure it remains a powerhouse in the industry.
Due to its international reputation for quality and reliability, Toyota cars are built in several countries across the globe. Tahlequah drivers will find Toyota manufacturing facilities in countries such as:
While Toyota holds numerous manufacturing facilities around the world, many of its most popular models are assembled right here in the United States. Discover which Toyota cars are made in the USA in the breakdown below:
